What is Reiki?

Mikao_Usui_BW.jpg.webp

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone benefit from. It has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and malady and always creates a beneficial effect. It also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.

Reiki is a subtle yet powerful form of energy healing that supports the body’s natural ability to restore balance. It works quietly, beneath the surface, often in ways that are felt more than explained.

What Reiki can support

People come to Reiki for many reasons. Some arrive with a clear intention. Others simply feel called.

Reiki may support:

  • Emotional release and stress reduction

  • Calming an overactive nervous system

  • Mental clarity and grounding

  • Navigating grief, transition, or overwhelm

  • Reconnecting with intuition and inner awareness

You don’t need to know exactly what you’re working on. The energy has a way of meeting what’s ready.

What to expect during a Reiki treatment

Reiki sessions take place in a calm, welcoming space designed to help your body feel at ease.

You’ll remain fully clothed, resting comfortably on a massage table. Gentle hand placements are used, either lightly on or just above the body, allowing energy to flow where it’s needed most.

Many clients describe feeling deeply relaxed, as if their body finally has permission to exhale. Some experience warmth, tingling, or emotional release. Others simply rest.

There’s no right way to experience Reiki.

What to know after a Reiki treatment

Healing often continues beyond the table.

You may notice shifts in mood, sleep, emotions, or awareness in the days following your session. You might feel energized, reflective, or deeply calm. Occasionally, people feel tired as their body integrates the work.

I encourage you to drink water, rest when needed, and move gently with yourself.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to believe in Reiki for it to work?

No. Reiki does not require belief. Many people arrive curious or even skeptical and still find the experience deeply relaxing and supportive.

What should I wear?

Comfortable clothing. You’ll remain fully clothed throughout the session. Will you touch me during the session?

Light, respectful touch may be used, or hands may be held just above the body. If you have preferences, they are always honoured.

Can Reiki help with emotional healing?

Yes. Many people experience emotional release or clarity through Reiki. Sessions are held with care and confidentiality, allowing emotions to arise naturally.

How many sessions will I need?

That depends on your intentions and what you’re working through. Some people benefit from a single session, while others choose ongoing support.

What if I don’t feel anything?

That’s okay. Reiki works whether sensations are felt or not. Sometimes the effects are subtle and noticed later.
